Short description of the initiative:
Asociación Tambor de hojalata was established in January 2003 in order to defend, promote and disseminate an audiovisual culture among Children and Youth. The aim is to encourage multiculturalism, promote social integration and to disseminate culture in general and in particulary audiovisually. The main activity is the FICL. Already ten editions of the International Festival of Films for Children and Youth have been presented and they have screened over 400 different films from five continents which are targeting at the world of the child. Feature films, short films, animation, fiction, documentary in Spain unpublished and recently produced, screened in original language and often being presented by the actors. This is an event in which children are the protagonists: they act as various jury members, vote as groups and create their own quality videos (more than 30 short), which are delivered on the closing day. They offer several workshops for audivisual creation where children and youngsters are able to create their own stories. Asociación Tambor de hojalata are part of different Spanish and international associations such as OCTA (Observatory of Contents Television and Audiovisual), ECFA and CIFEJ where the association actively reviews and brings ideas to improve and defend education, distribution, exhibition, and dissemination of audiovisual culture legislation which is addressed to the world of children.
Training and social development activities are also another fields of their activity directed to the world of children. In various schools in Madrid extra classes are held to encourage the use of audiovisual and cinematographic language teaching. Right now we are expanding our workshops to other contexts, to give other young people the possibility to tell their own stories with the help of audiovisual tools. (Minor protected at-risk children or children hospitalized)
